Mudjacking |
|
|
Settled or undermined slabs do not have to be replaced to bring them back to a safe and usable condition. Slabjacking or mudjacking, as it is commonly known, can often accomplish this without the inconvenience of removal and replacement, and generally at costs less than that for new slabs.
Mudjacking is a relatively simple procedure suing a positive displacement hydraulic pump. First a series of holes varying from 1 ½ to 2 ½ inches in diameter are drilled through the slab at selected locations into which the grout mixture is to be pumped. The grout, usually a combination of cement and silly soil, is thoroughly mixed in a mortar mixer. The grout mix is then poured into the mudjack and pumped beneath the slab. The grout will flow beneath the slab and fill any voids present there. After the void has been filled additional pressure is applied through the mudjack to raise the slab.
Mudjacking systems have been used to stop seepage
through earth dams and around concrete spillways, to fill abandoned
sewers and underground storage tanks, and to stabilize utility borings
and trench backfills.
